Chronotype-specific Sleep in Two Versus Four Consecutive Shifts

چکیده
The study aimed to explore chronotype-specific effects of two versus four consecutive morning or night shifts on sleep-wake behavior. Sleep debt and social jetlag (a behavioral proxy circadian misalignment) were estimated from sleep diary data collected for 5 weeks in a within-subject field 30 rotating shift workers (29.9 ± 7.3 years, 60% female). Mixed models used examine whether sequence length are dependent chronotype, testing the interaction between (two vs. four) chronotype (determined diaries). Analyses showed no significant with chronotype. In contrast, increasing number increased early chronotypes, but decreased late types, change intermediate ones. higher was due accumulated loss over shifts. duration did not increase course shifts, so that adaptation is unlikely explain observed lower debt. Late types instead had after which carried preceding this schedule. Including naps findings. Social unaffected by Our results suggest should be limited types. For other working might beneficial alternative Studies record sequences schedules.

Characterizing recovery of sleep after four successive night shifts.
The purpose of this study was to characterize the recovery pattern of sleep following simulated, four successive night shifts in ten healthy men (22.9 + or - 3.2 yr). Poor sleep was defined as sleep efficiency of 80% or lower as determined actigraphically. The results showed that four (rapid, slow, pseudo, and incomplete) patterns of sleep recovery were observed over three recovery sleep period...
متن کاملThe Relationship between Chronotype and Sleep Quality in Korean Firefighters
OBJECTIVE We examined the relationship between chronotype and sleep disturbance, and assessed various factors that might be associated with sleep disturbance in Korean firefighters. METHODS Self-administered questionnaires assessing chronotype, depression, alcohol use, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), stress response and sleep quality were examined in 515 firefighters. RESULTS Evening ...
متن کاملChronotype, bed timing and total sleep time in seniors.
Many older adults (seniors) experience problems with getting enough sleep. Because of the link between sleep and circadian rhythms, changes in bedtime lead to changes in the amount of sleep obtained. Although primarily determined genetically, chronotype changes with advancing age towards a more morning-type (M-type) orientation. In a 2006 study, we have found a linear relationship, by which the...
متن کاملComparison of the correlation between sleep quality and quality of life of nurses in rotating shifts and fixed shifts
Introduction: Due to the nature of nursing practice, nurses face a variety of stressful situations in the workplace. They are at risk of insomnia since they work irregularly in the morning, evening and night shifts. The irregular sleep-wake pattern in nurses decreases their sleep quality and sleep duration, and also leads to their poor occupational performance. The present study was conducted t...
متن کاملChronotype modulates sleep duration, sleep quality, and social jet lag in shift-workers.
This study explores chronotype-dependent tolerance to the demands of working morning, evening, and night shifts in terms of social jet lag, sleep duration, and sleep disturbance. A total of 238 shift-workers were chronotyped with the Munich ChronoType Questionnaire for shift-workers (MCTQ(Shift)), which collects information about shift-dependent sleep duration and sleep timing. Additionally, 94...
